The Rent Increase Checker

Got a rent increase notice? Check it in ten seconds — the cap for your year, the dollar math on your rent, and the clock the notice has to respect. Ontario, sourced, no signup.

The guideline applies to most Ontario units. Exempt: buildings first occupied after Nov 15, 2018, long-term care homes, community housing — and the first rent agreed with a new tenant (turnover).

Above-guideline increases need an LTB order (your landlord applies — Form L5), or in limited cases your written agreement (Form N10, with a 5-day cooling-off). Disputes go to the LTB (Form T1) within 12 months of first paying an improper amount. Care homes, co-ops and social housing have their own rules.
